The federal government of Pakistan is now set to issue e-passports from next year to facilitate the citizens, as announced on Tuesday. The decision was reportedly taken during a meeting hosted in Islamabad. The Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed directed the meeting in the capital city. The conference was further accompanied by the secretary of the interior, chairman of NADRA, DG Passport, and additional DG FIA.

 

The Launch of E-Passports will Eliminate Problems Caused by the Manual System

 

Furthermore, the verdict of launching e-passports was reached during the meeting to eliminate all the problems that the present manual system creates for Pakistani residents and to help the overseas residents to complete online application processes through an updated system.

In addition to this, the report concluded that the digitalization of the records will significantly enhance the speed of identification systems, simplify the passport control system and guide the way to automate services. E-passports will also assist the airport staff and officials to complete traveling means swiftly with comfort.

 

The New Digitized Passports Will Have Embedded Biometric Chips

 

The e-passports will contain two pictures of the Pakistani resident displayed on the front page of the passport. The newly submitted e-passports will have a biometric chip that will hold the personal data of the resident such as fingerprints, pictures, and other information. The microchip will be implanted in all e-passports which will help validate the identity of the individual.

 

Moreover, the government of Pakistan had announced in February that all visa requests would be processed through an online visa portal to phase out the time taking manual visa system and enable citizens to apply for visas in a secure and easy manner.
