Prime Minister Imran Khan in his visit to Haripur has laid the foundation stone of Pakistan’s Digital City Special Technology Zone project, the first of its kind in the country. Pakistan’s Digital City project is the flagship project of the KP to provide all facilities to the IT industry in one place. The mega project is scattered over 86 kanals of land and is expected to be completed at a cost of Rs1.31 billion.

Pakistan’s digital city special technology zone project
Pakistan’s digital city project aims to serve as a state-of-the-art facility to enable collaborations and innovation amongst academia, research, industry, and planners from within the country and abroad. It will additionally benefit other allied industries like electronics, software houses, mobile phone industry, technology incubators, computer industry in the province. Last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated Lahore Technopolis, a special technology zone, to create jobs and boost Pakistan’s tech exports.

The prime minister said the Special Technology Zone was a complete ecosystem that would have a positive impact on the next generations. He further added that in the past, the highly educated youths remained unemployed as the institutions had no connection with the market. However, projects like the Special Technology Zones would open up new avenues for their employment. Imran Khan revealed that the present government removed impediments in the technology sector which took the growth to 45 percent and is expected to touch the 75 percent mark this year.

In a statement, the Chairman Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) Amer Hashmi said that the Special Technology Zones (STZs) will leverage knowledge and innovation ecosystems to accelerate tech transformation in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He further added that the STZs will focus on high-tech software and hardware development, creating and scaling-up innovative ventures, business process outsourcing, and provision of highly skilled services.
