Tech giant, Apple’s upcoming iOS 16 in the new iPhone 14 Pro is likely to upgrade the lock screen, messaging, and health features. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple may finally bring the always-on display mode to the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. The company could introduce the feature with iOS 16, allowing the iPhone to display a limited amount of information even when it’s locked.
The New Always-On Display Mode Will Show Glanceable Information to Users
Moreover, the functionality of the always-on display mode on the iPhone 14 Pro model would allow those devices to show you notifications and other glanceable information without the need to fully wake their displays. That’s a feature that’s long been available on many Android phones, and Apple had reportedly planned to add it to the iPhone 13 last year but later changed its plans.
Gurman writes in his newsletter: “I’m told iOS 16 builds in future support for an always-on lock screen, something Apple was originally planning for last year’s iPhone 13. This would allow the iPhone to turn down the frame rate significantly on the lock screen and display quickly glanceable information – similar to newer Apple Watches.”
Apple is Also Working to Let iOS Users Resize App Windows
Furthermore, Gurman states that iOS 16 will also include enhancements to how the operating system handles multitasking and windowing. Gurman cites a recent tweet from developer Steve Troughton-Smith that shows Apple is likely working on a way to let iOS users resize app windows. Gurman says he also expects the firm to add new social network-like features within Messages.
I know better than to get excited about improvements to iPad, because we’ve been burned so many times…
But WebKit just added infrastructure for a ‘multitasking mode’ on iOS that sure looks like it’s a system toggle that enables freely-resizable windows https://t.co/NBNGhHiaxB
