In the recent news, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has inaugurated three more Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) projects worth Rs. 5 billion for six districts in Sindh. The Optical Fiber Cable projects will deliver high-speed connectivity to 4.2 million residents in Larkana, Hyderabad, Badin, Qambar Shahdadkot District, Jamshoro, and Badin, and will be completed in 16 months.

MoITT is Working on Diverse Projects in Line with the Vision of Digital Pakistan
Furthermore, the agreement for the Optical Fiber Cable projects was signed between the Universal Service Fund (USF) and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL). Addressing the new development at the signing ceremony, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah stated in line with the vision of Digital Pakistan, the MoITT has been operating diverse projects through the Universal Service Fund (USF).
Moreover, these Optical Fiber Cable projects are playing a huge role in the socio-economic evolution of the locals. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Amin ul Haque speaking during the signing ceremony stated that the ministry seeks to connect all the citizens of Pakistan through the USF as digitalization has become a preference for corporations and societies.
Optical Fiber Cable Projects Will Provide Easier Access to the Internet in Rural Areas of Sindh
Following its Next Generation Optic Fiber (NG-OF) Network & Services program, the USF has acquired over 16,000 km of OFC to benefit 31.5 million people across the country by allowing access to information and e-suite assistance, such as e-healthcare, e-finance, e-agriculture, and e-education. The IT minister further added that the MoITT is facilitating the rural and remote communities to compete more suitable and support economic development for a favorable impact on the national GDP while contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
