After stirring anticipation, the famous messaging app WhatsApp has finally launched voice and video call support for its desktop app on Thursday. This new advancement can enable the users to simply take or attend calls on WhatsApp using their desktops.
The calls made using WhatsApp will be end-to-end encrypted to other users on both mobile devices and computers. While this notion is not new to the Facebook-owned company, the feature has been in the developing phase for several months for desktop users.
“Sometimes you just need a little more space. Secure and reliable, end-to-end encrypted voice and video calls are now available on our desktop app,” the company stated on Twitter.

“Voice and video call are end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can’t hear or see them, whether you call from your phone or your computer. We’re starting with one-to-one calls on the desktop app so we make sure we can give you a reliable and high-quality experience. We will be expanding this feature to include group voice and video calls in the future,” the company announced in a statement.
However, the company has not instated a group call feature on WhatsApp for desktop. Therefore, the users can only make one-to-one voice or video calls.
WhatsApp has shown tremendous growth by introducing more new features in the past year. Recently, Facebook has also added opt-in biometric fingerprint, face or iris scan authentication for WhatsApp on desktop and the web, which is to be considered as an extra protection layer.
