A multinational corporation, Qualcomm Inc on Thursday announced the news of a new range of chips for connecting wireless speakers and headphones that are created to support Android phones rival the ease-of-use of Apple Inc’s headphones.
Wireless headphones of Apple have become one of its fastest-growing segments. AirPods contain many special features such as the comfort of pairing with phones and the capacity to share audio streams from a phone with other Apple users, which is derived from distinctive chips that the tech giant places in its headphones and phones that assist them to communicate with each other.
Now, Qualcomm is launching a line of chips devised to facilitate a likewise level of integration among Android phones, where the company has a considerable share of the market for producing and processing chips, and third-party headphones from brands focused on the audio sector such as Audio-Technica Corp.
“The challenge in the Android ecosystem is that it’s not as closed or vertically integrated as the iOS ecosystem. It’s very fragmented,” said Rahul Patel, senior vice president, and general manager of Qualcomm’s connectivity chip unit. “We want to enable (audio companies) to work seamlessly with Android products.”
Moreover, Qualcomm has stated Audio-Technica and Xiaomi Corp would be primary clients for the chips, phones, and earbuds featuring these chips are to expected in the summer.
