Pakistani star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, bagged a gold medal for the country during the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Arshad has set a new CWG record of a 90.18m throw and became the first Pakistani to hold the record. While speaking to the media, he said; “Due to prayers of the nation, Allah (God) has rewarded me a gold medal.”
Arshad Nadeem’s Historic Throw
During the first round of the javelin throw final, Nadeem created a record through an 86.81 metre throw. In the second attempt, Arshad broke his own record by achieving an 88m throw, followed by an 85.09m throw in the in fourth attempt to remain on top of the list. In the fifth attempt, the Olympian set a new CWG record of a 90.18m throw. With the historic throw, Nadeem has beaten India’s Neeraj Chopra’s Tokyo Olympic throw of 87.58m (Gold) and the World Athletics Championship throw of 88.13m.
Arshad Nadeem has achieved the feat with elbow and knee injuries, he thanked his physicians for helping him throughout the process. Arshad told the local news media; “I thanked my physicians who had worked with me during my training.” The Pakistani star also thanked Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for providing him with facilities. Pakistan’s other gold at the Commonwealth Games 2022 came in the weightlifting +109 kilograms category when Nooh Dastgir Butt made a new record by lifting 173 kilograms.

Congratulations are in Order
After winning gold for Pakistan, Arshad Nadeem started receiving praise from all over the country. The President of Pakistan also congratulated the young athlete, he wrote; “Congratulations Arshad Nadeem on making history in Javelin throw and winning Gold Medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The nation is proud of you.”

The PCB also sends well wishes to the star athlete. The cricket regulating body wrote; “We are proud of your Commonwealth Games record throw of 90.18 meters to win a gold medal for your country.”
