Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed the plan during a high-level meeting, where he emphasized the need to address Karachi’s growing transport needs.
Double-decker Buses to Hit Karachi Roads: Government Plans and Procurement
During a meeting attended by the officials, including the Director of Transport and the Manager of Operations for the People’s Bus Service, the Sindh government decided to purchase 50 new double-decker buses. The procurement process is already underway, with Memon instructing the Mass Transit Authority and other relevant departments to expedite the process. The introduction of these buses is part of a strategy to revamp Karachi’s public transport, providing a more efficient system for daily commuters.
Urban Transport Modernization
Sharjeel Memon reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the urban transport network in Karachi, stressing the importance of swift action to meet the demands of the city’s population. The construction of new bus stations for the People’s Bus Service was also highlighted as a priority. In addition to this, the Sindh government is preparing to take over the operations of the Green Line bus service by December 2024, further enhancing public transport options. The addition of double-decker buses in Karachi’s transport infrastructure promises a more reliable and comfortable experience for its residents.
