WhatsApp has officially rolled out its highly anticipated WhatsApp voice message transcripts feature, allowing users to convert voice messages into text. The Meta-owned platform aims to enhance convenience, particularly in situations where listening to audio is impractical; this feature promises a smooth experience to users, all while ensuring their privacy.
How to Use the WhatsApp Voice Message Transcripts Feature
The voice message transcripts feature is designed to cater to users in noisy environments or during moments when listening is not an option. To activate the feature:
- Go to WhatsApp’s Settings menu.
- Navigate to the Chats section.
- Enable Voice Message Transcripts.
Once activated, you can generate a transcript for any voice message by long-pressing it and selecting the “Transcribe” option. However, transcripts are not automatically generated for all messages, ensuring users have complete control over their conversations.
Supported Languages
The feature supports a wide range of languages depending on the operating system:
- iOS:
- iOS 16+ includes English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic.
- iOS 17+ expands to Danish, Finnish, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Hebrew, and Thai.
- Android:
- Currently supports English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
WhatsApp plans to introduce more languages in the coming months to cater to its global user base. With transcripts generated locally on devices, the feature guarantees that no external parties can access users’ messages, maintaining WhatsApp’s commitment to privacy.
