In order to support women’s independence and improve daily mobility, the Government of Sindh has officially launched its Free Electric Scooty Scheme for Women. Aimed at students and working women, this initiative is part of a broader effort to make transportation safer, more affordable, and accessible for women across the province.
The scooties, painted in pink, will be provided absolutely free of cost to eligible women — and the government has just announced who qualifies and how to apply.
Who Can Apply? – Eligibility Criteria for Free Electric Scooty Scheme for Women
The scheme comes with some basic but important conditions to make sure the benefit goes to those who need it most. Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking of applying:
- You must be a permanent resident of Sindh.
- Only female students or working women can apply.
- A valid driving license for either a motorbike or car is required.
- If selected, you’ll need to sign an agreement not to sell or rent out the scooty for at least seven years.
- Finally, successful applicants will have to pass a road safety skill test as part of the selection process.
Training, Selection & How to Apply
To help women feel confident on the road, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) will offer free riding and road safety training sessions in different cities. These will cover everything from basic riding skills to understanding traffic rules.
As for selection, the scooties will be distributed through a fair balloting system, with the entire process monitored by officials from the Excise, Transport, Finance, and Information departments — plus the media — to ensure transparency.
If you’re eligible and interested, you can apply online at the official SMTA website: smta.sindh.gov.pk
