A Rawalpindi civil court has temporarily banned the famous ride-hailing app, Careem from using the term “Captain” for its vehicle drivers after an airline pilot approached the court complaining to have suffered “embarrassment and disgrace” over-sharing his job title with the firm’s staff.
The order was declared by Civil Judge Rawalpindi Rao Ejaz Ahmed Awan, who instructed the company to submit its answer by July 31. The appeal was registered by Labeeb Ahmed, an aviator by profession, through his lawyer, Chaudhry Rizwan Elahi.

Moreover, the petitioner asserted that because of Careem’s usage of the title “captain” for its drivers, he has to undergo the brunt of jokes as people often intentionally confuse his designation title with that of Careem captains.
He further said that such instances had shattered his self-confidence and lowered an aviation position that is “achieved after going through severe training and earning a commercial pilot license from the Civil Aviation Authority Pakistan.”

The claimant stated that due to Careem’s terminology, he felt intimidated when sharing his job title with people. He argued that the title of captain should either be reserved for an aviator or a third-ranked leader of the armed troops, also recognized as a commissioned officer.
After listening to the arguments, the civil magistrate directed the company to not use the term “captain” for its drivers until the next hearing and further asked for a response from the zonal director of the firm by July 31st.
