The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has issued a stern warning to all e-commerce platforms to remain cautious while promoting/ marketing goods through online marketplaces. The platform operators and e-commerce businesses share equal responsibility and are expected to exercise caution while promoting/marketing goods.

Competition Commission of Pakistan Directs E-commerce Platforms to Display Accurate Information

According to the guidelines issued by CCP for e-commerce platforms, online marketplace undertakings may have a greater responsibility in making representations and placing adequate disclosure. Hence, the undertakings should display all material information accurately on platforms/websites/product pages as well as complete terms and conditions clearly and conspicuously.

To make it simple, the e-commerce platforms are asked to disclose proper details relating to price, quality, quantity, mode of payments, return, refund, exchange, warranty or guarantee, delivery or shipment, and any grievance redressal mechanism(s) in place, etc. The guidelines aim to protect customers from deception and fraudulent activities.
