A civil court has ruled in the Dua Zehra Marriage Case, declaring that her marriage to Zaheer Ahmed, solemnized in Punjab in 2022, is legally valid. The verdict comes after Dua filed a lawsuit seeking to nullify the marriage, claiming it was conducted under coercion and without her consent. The court, however, stated that she is free to seek dissolution of marriage through the relevant legal channels.
Dua Zehra Marriage Case: Court Rejects Nullification Request
In 2023, Dua Zehra had filed a case against Zaheer Ahmed, requesting that their marriage certificate be declared void. She argued that she was underage at the time of marriage and that the Nikahnama was forged. She also sought a restraining order to prevent Zaheer from making claims about their marriage.
After reviewing evidence from both parties, Civil Judge & Judicial Magistrate (East) Mohammad Nouman Jatoi dismissed her suit for jactitation of marriage. The court ruled that the marriage remains valid but stated that Dua has the right to approach the concerned court for dissolution if she wishes.
Ongoing Family Dispute
The Dua Zehra Marriage Case has been at the center of legal proceedings since her disappearance from Karachi in April 2022. Following a public outcry and Sindh High Court’s intervention, she was found in Bahawalpur and placed in a shelter home.
In 2023, the SHC granted her interim custody to her parents, later making it permanent, citing her welfare. Meanwhile, Zaheer Ahmed and others face legal proceedings under Pakistan’s penal code and child marriage laws, as the case continues to unfold.
