Smartphone for All: Buy Smartphones on Installments

The buy smartphones on installments plan is designed to ensure that more people have access to smartphones, thereby increasing the number of connected citizens in the country. The telecom industry initially proposed the scheme to make smartphones more accessible, but it faced delays due to certain challenges, including resistance from a telecom operator. The Ministry of Information Technology has since been working to resolve these issues, and the policy has now been finalized and approved.

Easy Installment Plans to Drive Digital Inclusion

Under this policy, citizens will be able to acquire smartphones through manageable installment plans; the initiative has been in development for over a year, and its launch is eagerly anticipated. The installment system is expected to make high-quality smartphones affordable for low- and middle-income individuals, thus contributing to the government’s goal of enhancing digital access. The new policy will enable a wider demographic to participate in the digital economy, supporting e-commerce, online education, and other essential services.

The scheme is a step towards bridging the digital divide, ensuring more equitable access to technology across the country.
