Instagram is testing a new feature that will help people find and support social movements via the application. When you search for specific hashtags associated with certain social movements, you’ll have the option to support them via the ‘Support’ and ‘Spread the Word’ buttons.

Support the social movements with Instagram
Instagram announced the new feature to support the social movements in a Twitter post, stating; “Starting today we’re testing out a new way for people to learn more about social movements and to get the word out.” Instagram says that many users have requested more direct ways to support charities; “We’re rolling this out first to a handful of hashtags that are focused on popular and long-standing movements on Instagram and in the world, like #BlackLivesMatter, #womensrights, and #climatecrisis.”
Once you get to the hashtag page, you can select “Support” to learn more about the movement. There’s also a “Spread the Word” button that lets you share the hashtag page with your friends via a DM. The company says the new feature will also make it easier to raise awareness for these causes through a “Create a Fundraiser” button that can be used to start raising money on behalf of a cause, Tech Crunch reported.

Donations collected via Facebook and Instagram
Instagram said in a blog post that since January, people have raised more than $US 100 million for COVID-19 fundraisers globally across Instagram and Facebook. In the last 30 days, donations on Instagram have doubled in the US. The new feature aims to make it easier to create fundraisers directly on Instagram that benefit such personal causes. To create a Personal Fundraiser, tap “Edit Profile,” “Add Fundraiser” and then “Raise Money.” Choose a photo, select a fundraiser category and add details to help tell your story and encourage others to donate. It is pertinent to mention here that all fundraisers will go through a scrutiny process before approving them.
