Just like Twitter, Instagram is also planning to launch paid verification service for its app. The feature was spotted by the developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who had previously spotted a number of new features before they launched. According to Alessandro; “Instagram is working on a subscription plan which includes the blue badge.”

Instagram’s Paid Verification Service – A reality or Rumor?
The reverse app engineer has shared a few screenshots with the international news media, which shows a few coding and references to a new type of subscription product that hadn’t been there previously. He also suggested that, given the context in the screenshot, “IDV” could mean identity verification; he also said that the same was also visible in one of the latest builds of the Facebook app.
The paid Instagram verification service, if launched, will be similar to Twitter’s blue tick services, which are generating huge revenue from its most controversial release to date. The new subscription model, in the case of Twitter, comes with added benefits such as increased video limit, edit button, prioritizing comments, and much more. It should be noted that Instagram has not yet commented on the recent development.
The Rising Cost of Metaverse
Experts believe that Meta is looking to replenish its fund by possibly launching the paid verification system, as the company has lost millions to the idea of Metaverse. Meta’s Reality Lab division recently posted a $4.28 billion operating loss in the fourth quarter, bringing its total for 2022 to $13.72 billion. It has lost more than six times the amount of money it generated in revenue last year. Meta has already predicted that Reality Labs operating losses in 2023 will grow significantly year-over-year.
