Spotify said that streams of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” has jumped 9,000% after the song was featured in the fourth season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” Bush also released a statement saying; “I feel deeply honored that the song was chosen to become part of their roller-coaster journey… I am in awe. They’ve made something really spectacular.”
Running Up That Hill Made its Way Back to the US Charts
Kate Bush’s “Running Up That originally peaked at No. 30 in 1985. However, the song made its way back into the US Top 10 hit chart when the first part of Stranger Things’ fourth season dropped in late May. Not only this, but Bush’s song also became her first No. 1 hit in the U.K, in nearly 50 years of her career.
According to Luminate, which collects data for the Billboard charts, the song has been streamed 465 million times globally and 147 million times in the US. Rob Jonas, the CEO of Luminate, said; “The song has seen a 16,867% streaming increase, which led to it becoming the most audio streamed song, both within the US and globally earlier this month.”

2.7 Million TikTok videos for Kate Bush’s Song
Tiktok has a history of bringing old songs back to life and back on the charts. The same is the case for ‘Running Up The Hill,’ the 1985 hit song was propelled by TikTok and it has been featured on 2.7 million TikTok ever since. Bush said; “I’ve just watched the last two episodes of Stranger Things and they’re just through the roof. I was so delighted that the Duffer Brothers wanted to use [“Running Up That Hill”] for Max’s totem.”
