NCP leader Baba Siddique shot dead in Mumbai | X

India’s infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for Baba Siddique’s assassination, sparking an extensive investigation by law enforcement agencies. The former minister and prominent member of the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra East, Mumbai. The chilling murder has caused unrest across the region, with authorities detaining two suspects believed to be connected to the assassination.

Baba Siddique’s Assassination: Gang’s Claim and Arrests

Baba Siddique, 66, was gunned down by three shooters late Saturday night. Within hours of the attack, the Bishnoi gang took to social media to claim responsibility for the murder. A post reportedly linked to Shubuu Lonkar, an associate of the Bishnoi network, claimed responsibility for Baba Siddique’s assassination. The police are now investigating the legitimacy of the post and whether Lonkar, who was previously arrested for illegal weapons possession, played a role in orchestrating the hit.

The police have arrested two suspects—Gurmail Baljit Singh, 23, from Haryana, and Dharamraj Kashyap, 19, from Uttar Pradesh—while continuing the search for the third shooter. The suspects are believed to have been closely monitoring Siddique’s movements for months, conducting reconnaissance at his home and office.

Further investigations have revealed a deep connection between the suspects and the Bishnoi gang. Both Kashyap and another suspect, Shiv Kumar Gautam, are from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. They were reportedly recruited by the gang after working as labourers in Pune. Bahraich Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla confirmed that the suspects were promised INR 50,000 each for the assassination, with arms provided shortly before the attack.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang first made headlines in 2022 when they claimed responsibility for the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Now, with Baba Siddique’s assassination, the gang’s influence continues to loom large over organized crime in India, while the police work tirelessly to dismantle the network and bring all responsible to justice.
