As Twitter prepares for the much-awaited relaunch of the Twitter Blue Subscription, the platform has updated its guidelines regarding new Twitter accounts. As per the updated policy, the new Twitter accounts must wait 90 days before being allowed to subscribe to the new Twitter Blue plan. According to the company’s FAQ page, “Newly created Twitter accounts will not be able to subscribe to Twitter Blue for 90 days. We may also impose waiting periods for new accounts in the future at our discretion without notice.”
Twitter Blue Subscription Plan Scared off Advertisers Causing Revenue Loss
Elon Musk has suspended the subscription to the Twitter Blue plan due to its adverse effects on the platform. Since the new chief took over, Twitter has been going through many issues, such as blue tick verification chaos. This has resulted in a considerable revenue loss for the company as the platform lost billions due to its new policies.
Twitter faced extreme resistance from significant segments of society due to the blue tick verification mark granted to all users, making it easier to create fake accounts and spread false news. Meanwhile, Twitter also lost a significant chunk of advertisers who pulled off due to Musk’s plans to democratize the system. Senator Ed Markey has criticized Elon Musk over the ease of creating fake accounts. She suggested that Congress might intervene if the entrepreneur doesn’t fix it.
Changing Names of Verified Accounts
Elon Musk has made it clear that anyone who changes the name of a verified account will lose their blue tick mark; the development came after fake accounts flooded the platform impersonating real-life journalists, politicians, statesmen, and more. Musk said; “Changing your verified name will cause loss of checkmark until the name is confirmed by Twitter to meet Terms of Service.”
