The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has assured an uninterrupted gas supply during Sehr and Iftar times throughout the Holy month of Ramzan. As Pakistanis prepare to observe the first day of Ramadan on Wednesday, March 12th, the announcement comes as a relief to many households reliant on gas for cooking and other essential activities during these crucial hours.
SSGC Assures Uninterrupted Gas Supply During Sehr and Iftar
The SSGC revealed its commitment to ensuring no gas load-shedding during Sehr-o-Iftar. The company also shared a detailed schedule indicating a suspension of gas supply from 9 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 3 am during Ramadan. The proactive measure aims to facilitate an easier experience for individuals observing their religious practices during the crucial pre-dawn and evening hours.
Despite this positive development, the SSGC highlighted the ongoing challenge of Pakistan’s gas reserves declining by 8 to 10 per cent annually. Earlier in the week, the company issued a warning, stating that the country’s gas reserves could be halved by 2027. The statement emphasized the need to transition to RLNG (Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas) to address the increasing consumption and rapidly diminishing local gas reserves percent.
Challenges Faced by SSGC
Amidst these challenges, the SSGC disclosed ongoing efforts, including exploration into biogas, nitrogen production, and the extraction of gas from coal to meet the nation’s growing gas demands highlighting the necessity for sustainable and diverse solutions to secure Pakistan’s energy future.
As the Central Ruet-e-Hilal committee convenes on March 11 in Peshawar to spot the Ramadan moon, the SSGC’s commitment to uninterrupted gas supply during Sehr and Iftar brings a sense of stability to households during this auspicious month, the assurance also serves as a crucial step towards balancing the nation’s energy needs with the reverence for religious practices.
