PM Shehbaz meets Meta delegation to explore opportunities for collaboration in the fields of Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The meeting, held on Tuesday, featured a five-member delegation from Meta, led by Vice President for Asia Pacific, Simon Milner. The discussions focused on the potential for advancing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure through strategic partnerships with global tech giants like Meta.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the growing importance of Pakistan’s IT and digital media sectors. He pointed out that the government has allocated a record budget to promote IT development, reflecting its commitment to transforming Pakistan into a digital hub. The Prime Minister highlighted the untapped potential within the country, particularly in AI, and expressed his desire to leverage Meta’s expertise in these areas to accelerate growth and innovation.
The Meta delegation provided an overview of their operations in Pakistan and the Asia Pacific region. They also shared that Pakistan recently hosted its first AI competition, showcasing the nation’s growing capabilities in this field. PM Shehbaz instructed relevant authorities to address any operational challenges Meta might face in Pakistan, ensuring a smooth and effective partnership moving forward.
Commitment to Strengthening Digital Media and AI in Pakistan
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating on the development of Pakistan’s digital media and AI sectors. The meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Jehanzeb Khan. The discussions marked an efficient step towards creating a robust IT ecosystem in Pakistan, with Meta playing a major role in this project.
