The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has recently revealed the potential designs for new currency notes, sharing the creative submissions from a national art competition. The competition, launched in March 2024, was part of the SBP’s initiative to refresh the design of all existing denominations, the goal was to incorporate fresh, thematic, and innovative ideas, leading to a vibrant update of Pakistan’s banknotes.

Winners of the Potential Designs for New Currency Notes

The art competition attracted a wide array of submissions, and the SBP has announced several talented individuals as winners. The first prize winners included Dr. Shery Abidi, Haroon Khan, Syed Fawad Hussain, Memoona Afzal, Hadiya Hassan, and Noureen Aslam. They were awarded for their unique contributions in creating the most innovative designs for the upcoming banknotes. The second prize was secured by Mirza Sufiyan, Aynee Zahra, and Karim Muhammad. The winning designs reflect Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and diversity, setting a promising foundation for the new currency series.

Collaboration with International Designers

While the SBP has selected the winning local designs, the process doesn’t end there. These potential designs for new currency notes are currently being shared with a team of international designers. Drawing inspiration from the local submissions, the global experts will bring their professional expertise to finalize the series. The collaboration ensures that the final banknotes will blend both local artistry and international design standards. Once completed, the SBP is expected to roll out these modernized banknotes, symbolizing a big step forward in Pakistan’s financial evolution.
