The U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly informed his cabinet and close associates that Elon Musk will leave White House soon, stepping back from his role as a special government employee leading cost-cutting efforts. The news, reported by Politico, comes amid mounting political tension and speculation over Musk’s dual responsibilities between his business empire and government duties.
Elon Musk Will Leave White House Soon, Says Trump
According to the Politico report, Trump and Musk have recently agreed that Musk will soon return full-time to his business ventures, including Tesla, SpaceX, and X. Musk has been heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), tasked with slashing government expenditures and dismantling federal agencies. Although no specific date was given, Trump acknowledged Musk’s contributions and stated, “He’s amazing, but he’s got a big company to run.” Despite his departure, sources confirmed that Musk will remain until his 130-day term concludes. A White House insider also noted that investors have been pressuring Musk to focus on his companies, and that he has already conveyed his intent to Trump.
DOGE Initiative May Outlive Musk’s Tenure
While Musk’s formal government role may be ending soon, DOGE’s mission is far from over. The initiative, backed by Trump’s executive order, will continue until July 4, 2026. Musk’s cost-cutting measures have sparked nationwide protests, lawsuits, and even vandalism at Tesla dealerships. Despite the controversy, a senior official hinted that Musk could maintain an informal advisory role within Trump’s circle. However, others warned that anyone expecting Musk to vanish from Washington is “fooling themselves.” His presence, influence, and blunt style have left an indelible mark on Trump’s second-term plans.
