The highly-controversial Twitter blue’s paid subscription service is temporarily suspended as fake accounts flooded the platform impersonating brands and eminent personalities. Elon Musk has confirmed that Twitter Blue’s paid subscription service will be relaunched on 29th November. He tweeted; “Punting relaunch of Blue Verified to November 29th to make sure that it is rock solid.”
Twitter Blue’s Paid Subscription Service Wrecked Havoc in Last Few Days
Since Elon Musk took over, the micro-blogging platform was all over the news due to its blue tick verification system, which Musk has planned to make it available for all so as to generate a revenue stream for the company which was going in an unimaginable loss every day. To everyone’s surprise, the move to authorize blue ticks for everyone went haywire after its launch.
Fake accounts of former US President Donald Trump, the gaming character Super Mario, Lakers player LeBron James and even the Twitter account of Jesus Christ popped up. The worst happened with the insulin-producing company, Eli Lilly, which end up losing its shares due to a tweet from a fake-verified account that remained on the platform for hours.
What’s Now?
After the chaos and unwanted trolling, Twitter has taken away all the verified blue ticks that were approved in the past few days only to relaunch by the end of the month. While the chaotic situation is going on, Musk has asked Twitter employees to brace for long hours of work as the company looks toward bankruptcy. He said that Twitter will not survive the upcoming economic downturn if it fails to boost subscription revenue to counter the falling advertising income. Since his takeover, Musk has fired nearly half of the platform’s workforce, including its CEO Parag Agrawal.
