Twitter is censoring Substack links by making it impossible for users to like, retweet, and comment on links having Substack’s URL. If someone tries to interact with any of the Substack links, they are greeted with an error message, which reads; “Some actions on this Tweet have been disabled by Twitter.”
Social Media Platforms React to the Ban on Substack Links
Substak founders have reacted strongly to the ban, “We’re disappointed that Twitter has chosen to restrict writers’ ability to share their work. Writers deserve the freedom to share links to Substack or anywhere else,” Substack’s founders said. “Their livelihoods should not be tied to platforms where they don’t own their relationship with their audience, and where the rules can change on a whim,’ they further added.
Not a good sign if you need to build a wall to keep people in. Twitter did it to last year, and they're doing it to #Substack now. They can get away with anything as long as they keep you locked in. The future of social media is open and decentralized.https://t.co/o9C0mekuMp

Mastodon, another perform whose links are banned on Twitter, said in a tweet; “Not a good sign if you need to build a wall to keep people in. Twitter did it to last year, and they’re doing it to #Substack now. They can get away with anything as long as they keep you locked in. The future of social media is open and decentralized.”
Criticism on Musk
Judd Legum, an author of Popular Information, a politics-focused newsletter, said; “It appears that Musk is making decisions based on his own financial interests and petty grievances, even if it makes Twitter objectively worse for users.” A Twitter user said; “I am really beginning to think that Twitter is being slowly killed. When I stop seeing tweets from those I follow who are important to me, it will be time to move on to Mastadon for good.”
