Recently, the Universal Service Fund (USF) Board passed four projects worth almost Rs. 993 million to provide high-speed internet assistance to around 0.66 million people in underserved areas of Sindh and Punjab. The announcement of high-speed internet projects was made in the 78th Board of Directors meeting of USF hosted on Tuesday.

 

The meeting was chaired by the Federal Secretary for Ministry of IT and Telecommunication & Chairman of USF Board, Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput. Furthermore, advised by the Federal Minister for Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunication, Syed Amin ul Haque, the USF Board authorized the grant of high-speed mobile broadband contracts to Jazz.

 

Improving Rural Access of Broadband Connectivity is of Crucial Priority

 

While speaking in the meeting, Federal Secretary for IT and Telecommunication and Chairman of USF Board, Dr. Muhamad Sohail Rajput, stated, “Access to broadband connectivity is a necessity, and therefore, improving rural access is of crucial priority. We are contributing effectively towards the realization of the Digital Pakistan vision and the development of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector to promote sustainable development. These high-speed internet projects will play a vital role in providing better access to education and healthcare facilities to the marginalized communities.”

High-Speed Internet Projects Will be a Plus Sign for the Development of Pakistan 

 

He further added that 4G connectivity across the country would make an enormous contribution to the socio-economic development of Pakistan. The Chief Executive Officer of USF, Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, advised the Board members about the high-speed internet projects. He further shed elaborated on the meaningful and accurate representation of the monetary and non-financial appearance and situation of the firm. In his initial remarks, he stated, “FY 2020-2021 was indeed an exciting year for our Company, filled with challenges, successes, energy, and lots of learning.”

 

Jazz Awarded with High-Speed Mobile Broadband Contracts 

 

In addition to this, as per the details, the Board approved the award of high-speed mobile broadband contracts to Jazz for districts of Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, and Shaheed Benazirabad. These high-speed internet projects will serve an unserved population of almost 0.66 million in 797 unserved muazas and an estimated unserved area of 5,509 sq. km.
