Virat Kohli breaks Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest batter to reach 14,000 ODI runs. He achieved this milestone in just 287 innings during India’s Champions Trophy match against Pakistan in Dubai. Kohli, who started the match just 15 runs short, reached the landmark while leading India to a successful chase of 242. His match-winning, unbeaten century—his 51st in ODIs—further cemented his legacy as one of cricket’s greatest players.
Virat Kohli Breaks Tendulkar’s Record– His Record-Breaking Feat in Numbers
Kohli now joins an elite club of batters who have crossed 14,000 ODI runs, alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. However, he reached the milestone in significantly fewer innings—63 less than Tendulkar, who took 350 innings, and 91 fewer than Sangakkara, who needed 378. Kohli also achieved the feat in just 14,984 balls, much quicker than Tendulkar (16,292) and Sangakkara (17,789). His current ODI average of over 57 is also considerably higher than both legends when they reached this mark.
A Legacy of Dominance in ODIs
Kohli has consistently been the fastest to every 1000-run milestone since crossing 8000 ODI runs in 2017. He is now third on the all-time list of highest ODI run-scorers and is closing in on Sangakkara’s 14,234 runs. With Tendulkar’s all-time record of 18,426 runs in sight, Kohli continues to rewrite history with his incredible consistency and match-winning performances.
