Millions of Pakistanis are experiencing issues with WhatsApp not working properly on cellular networks. The WhatsApp outage has been a huge inconvenience, particularly affecting users on Jazz, Telenor, Ufone, and Zong networks. This issue has surfaced since 10 Muharram (Ashura), impacting the ability to send and receive media files while calls and text messages remain unaffected.
WhatsApp Outage: App Irresponsive for Mobile Data Users
The primary complaint among users is that while WhatsApp calls and text messages function normally, media files such as videos and images fail to process or load; this problem predominantly affects those using mobile data, with wired broadband (WiFi) users experiencing no such issues. The problem has been most severe during peak hours following Youm-e-Ashura, creating frustration. Despite the scale of the issue, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has yet to provide an official explanation.
Impact on Metaverse Apps
The WhatsApp disruption is part of a larger trend affecting other Meta-owned applications, including Instagram and Facebook. Users have reported frequent crashes on these platforms as well. Earlier this week, local authorities restricted Facebook access without prior notice, causing difficulties for users across various internet service providers (ISPs). Although this restriction was expected to be lifted by July 17, its effects persist, indicating possible regulatory complications.
The ongoing issues with WhatsApp not working properly have left millions of Pakistanis in a state of inconvenience, particularly those relying on mobile data. The PTA and major cellular operators are investigating the matter, but no resolution is in sight.
