NUST

Paving its growth streak in the world and regional rankings with a successful curve, the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) has been ranked at #76 among Asian universities, in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings 2021 announced on November 25, 2020, taking a direct surge of 7 positions from its previous year’s ranking of #83.

The new ranking has placed NUST amongst the Top 12% Asian universities for the year 2021. With this exemplary achievement, NUST has not only maintained its upward trajectory in Asia by improving 36 positions in the last 5 years but has also retained its #1 position among Pakistani universities for the 4th consecutive year.

This is the second consecutive time that NUST has stood as the only Pakistani university in the Top 100 Asian universities. The new ranking title places it amongst the top 12% of Asian universities for 2021. NUST also stands amongst the top 100 universities as per academic reputation indicator.

Equivalently, the University of Peshawar has been ranked at 217, Agha Khan University 231, University of Agriculture Faisalabad 244, University of Karachi 281, and University of Lahore 301. Whereas, on an international level, the top ten positions in the rankings were dominated by varsities from Singapore, China, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Several Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Indian and Singaporean universities populated the top 100 list.

While determining university rankings, the indicators taken into consideration by QS include Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, Citation per Paper, Paper(s) per Faculty, International Research Network, International Faculty, International Students, Inbound Exchange Students, and Outbound Exchange Students.

NUST is also positioned in the top 50 under 50 category of being ranked at #41. The only other Pakistani university to come in this category is the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) which ranks at #46.

As NUST itself says, “NUST holds the unique honor of being #1 in #Pakistan in the world, Asian and young universities rankings.”
